Faustino Oro, a chess prodigy from Badalona, might be the next youngest grandmaster in chess. He is 12 years old, has a rating slightly above 2500, and is unfazed by pressure. He’s known to be the “grandmaster of soccer” and the name suits him well. Indian Express notes how “Oro still has five months to break Mishra’s record.” Even though he has tons of pressure from friends and family, he “dismisses any talk of pressure with a shrug… and a smile.” Oro tells The Indian Express in an interview from his home in Badalona a few hours after he turned 12. “I am not focussing on the record of being the youngest grandmaster in history. I will try to do that, obviously. But I am more focused on playing my style of chess and trying to improve a bit more every day. And well, if I improve a bit more each day, the grandmaster title will appear.” Whether or not he breaks the record, Faustino Oro is already playing a grandmaster’s game. Even though he’s 12 years old, everyone can learn from Oro’s calmness and strategies.
